Oneohtrix Point Never — New East 100

25 April 2017

The work of New York-based musician and composer Daniel Lopatin, better known by his alias Oneohtrix Point Never doesn’t only defy genres, but also the boundaries between the experimental music underground and the art world. Lopatin’s parents emigrated to the US from the Soviet Union, and he was born and raised in Massachusetts before moving to Brooklyn where he became involved with the underground noise music scene.

He released music and performed under various stage names (including KGB Man, a nod to his Russian background) before adopting the pseudonym Oneohtrix Point Never for his three acclaimed studio albums — the latest, Garden of Delete was released in 2015 through Warp. Along the way, he’s garnered an impressive number of high-profile collaborators in film, art and pop music: he composed the score for Sofia Coppola’s 2013 film The Bling Ring, co-produced Hopelessness, Anohni’s eco-feminist symphony of rage, collaborated with artists Jon Rafman and Nate Boyce, and built a sound palace for FKA Twigs’ tour-de-force of an ad campaign for Nike.
